Diplomate of the AADSM

Picture

On July 15, 2019 Gregory Osborne, DDS was certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM). This comes as the culmination of over 30 years of experience in sleep medicine and helping patients with airway problems.
Dental sleep medicine encompasses the clinical treatment of patients with sleep-related breathing disorders through utilization of oral appliance therapy, the promotion of long-term management of patients with sleep-related breathing disorders, and the scientific investigation of topics related to dental sleep medicine.
The ABDSM Diplomate status is the gold standard in dental sleep medicine demonstrating that a dentist has the technical skill, in-depth knowledge and professional judgment to provide optimal oral appliance therapy care.

Five Tips For Improving Your Sleep Quality
At Sleep Easy Dentistry, we know just how important it is to get a good night’s sleep. Unfortunately, you might be sabotaging your sleep quality without knowing it! We want to help you get the sleep you need, so Dr. Osborne and our team have put together the following five tips to help you improve your sleep quality.

1. Set a Routine
Humans are creatures of habit – and this certainly extends to your sleep. Try to stick to a sleep schedule that has you going to bed and waking up at roughly the same time each day, even on the weekend. Once your body adjusts to falling asleep at the same time each day, it usually becomes easier to do so!

2. Get Some Exercise
We all know that exercise has a variety of health benefits, but it can also benefit your sleep! If you can, vigorous exercise in the morning can make it easier to fall asleep at night. However, studies show that even light exercise (like a brisk walk) can help make sleep easier.

3. Wind Down
Try to do something relaxing for bed. For some, that might mean reading a book. For others, a warm bath may do the trick. Allowing your body and mind to relax and wind down before bedtime can make it easier to fall asleep when the time comes.

4. Try a Cup of Tea
Along with containing antioxidants that may lower your risk for certain diseases and aid your digestion, chamomile tea can help you get to sleep. Chamomile contains apigenin, a natural compound that has been shown to facilitate sleep.

5. Cut the Cord Before Bed
The blue light emitted from your electronic devices delays your body’s production of melatonin, a natural sleep-inducing hormone. To sleep easier, try to avoid looking at your phone and other screens for an hour before bed time.

We hope that these tips can help you get better sleep. However, if you notice that you are constantly tired and groggy no matter how much you sleep or if your partner complains about your snoring, it may be a sign that you have a sleep disorder and need further treatment.
